You don’t really use the laptop unless it’s for emails, web browsing, or binge on cat videos? Then forget expensive laptops packed high-end specs and latest processors – Chromebook will do just fine! Chromebooks are the light-duty version of ‘laptops’ that run only on Chrome OS, without all the heavy stuff you don’t need.
Getting confused already?
Don’t fret, we’ll get you up to speed with this article! Here, you’ll find out: What is a Chromebook, and popular list of Chromebooks (with price comparisons linked under each model). Read on to learn more!
What is a Chromebook?
All the while, laptops either run on Windows 10 or macOS (if you’re a MacBook user) as their operating system. For Chromebooks, they don’t run on either Windows 10 or macOS – they only run on Chrome OS.
Chrome OS is a lightweight operating system (first released in 2011) that allows only light and basic tasks such as emailing, writing and sharing documents in Google Drive, video and music streaming, and general browsing. You can also run your favourite mobile apps such as Spotify, Snapchat, Instagram, Netflix, and more.
The only downside is that it’s still limited as compared to Windows 10 and macOS when it comes to heavy-duty tasks such as video editing and hardcore gaming. However, it’s also because of this, Chromebooks’ battery life is very durable. They’re also extremely affordable, as they don’t need the greatest processors.
If you rarely or never utilise the heavy-duty tasks as mentioned above, the Chromebook is what you need. It’s better in terms of convenience, battery-life (you don’t have to bring along that heavy charger cable everywhere anymore), and budget.
